An important point that most tourists need to be aware of is the fact that there are two beaches named Playa Hermosa in Costa Rica. One is located in the province of Puntarenas, while the other Playa Hermosa lies in Guanacaste. The Playa Hermosa that is in Puntarenas is situated just five kilometers south of Jaco, and is one of the best surfing havens for professionals both national and international, in the country.

Best and most Consistent Surfing

Lying just at a ten-minute drive away from the beach town of Jaco, and a short drive from the capital San Jose, Playa Hermosa offers surfers some of the best and most consistent surf breaks in the world. However, it is important to mention here that the currents in Playa Hermosa are very strong and are not ideal for swimming. While Jaco offers waves for both beginners and experienced surfers to enjoy, Playa Hermosa is an expert surfer’s beach with waves reaching as high as 13 feet. There are a number of economical surf board rental shops on the beach as well that stow gear and rent out surfboards.

International Quicksilver Surf Championships

With world class waves, Playa Hermosa holds the International Quicksilver Surf Championships every year in August that literally brings hundreds of expert surfers here from all over the globe. The best time to surf in Playa Hermosa is from April to November, when the tide is high and rising. One of the most well known breaks on the beach is located in front of a large tree known as ‘El Almendro’ or the ‘Almond Tree’.

Since the economical accommodations in Playa Hermosa are quite sparse, most surfers tend stay in Jaco, which has a number of quality bars, hotels, restaurants, resorts and rooms for rent. Many people often prefer to surf the black sand beach of Hermosa to Jaco, as this beach is often empty during the week. However there are some very nice higher end hotels in Playa Hermosa.

Relaxing at Playa Hermosa

For those who get tired of surfing, Playa Hermosa is perfect for spending a day lounging in the sun with a good book, as not many people come here often. If you prefer, you could take a day trip to Costa Rica’s most famous national park, the Manuel Antonio National Park, which is about 45 minutes away or you could visit the Playa Hermosa Wildlife Refuge, which protects the Olive Ridley sea turtles that come to nest here every year.

Manuel Antonio is an small oceanside village with plenty of great places to stay - from extravagant luxury condos to cozy hideaway hotels tucked into nature. Famous for its national park, this tiny yet bustling town is located off Costa Rica's central Pacific coast just a stone's throw away from Quepos which is famous for sportfishing. The region is a treasure for biodiversity, attracting nature buffs, eco-travelers and adventure-seekers alike. Better yet, if you visit, you can soak up white sand and perfect waters. Without a doubt, Manuel Antonio lies within one of the country's most celebrated spots.

Jacó is a resort city originally planned by Charles Elwood Jaco, born 1925, who inherited the land and envisioned it as a fun family resort community for everyone. He was a successful Oil Tycoon when he started Jaco Oil in Texas. He envisioned Playa Jaco Beach as a resort community for everyone to enjoy including his children that included 2 sons (Charles & James), 1 daughter (Sheila Jaco Ginn) and his grandchildren. He worked extremely hard and was quiet about his dream. He died suddenly in 1977. His death was suspected by his 2nd wife (Delores Marie Soy) on their Texas Ranch (his Will for his children was never found).

This is a wonderful vacation spot on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica in Central America. Located in the county of Garabito in the Puntarenas province.

The city has a population of approximately 10,000 residents. Jacó's beach is 2.5 miles (4 km) long and offers some of the best surfing in Costa Rica.

Climate

As Jacó lies on the seashore, climate is normally humid, with relative humidity around 80%, reaching 90% in June. Temperature is 85–90 °F (24-32 °C) during the day and 75–80 °F (24-26 °C) at night. During the dry season, away from the water, the temperature may consistently reach 95 °F (35 °C) or above.

Jacó lies in a tropical climate zone mainly defined by distinct dry and wet seasons. Generally speaking, August through early December are wet, and late December through early April are dry; the remaining months have irregular rainy spells.

Geography

Jacó lies between several mountains, and is neighbored by the beaches of Herradura Bay to the North, and Playa Hermosa to the South. About 35 kilometers north of Jacó, lies the Carara National Park, recognized for its exuberant wildlife and dense rain forest. Carara is home to one of the largest remaining populations of wild scarlet macaws in the country. The ecotourism park Rainforest Adventures, NatGeo´s top ten of adventure trips,[2] is just 5 minutes from the beach and it features an aerial tram through the transitional forest. The Manuel Antonio National Park is located 75 kilometres south of Jacó.

Jacó lies about 100 kilometers (a little less than two hours via Route 34) from the capital San José and an hour and a half from Costa Rica's primary international airport, Juan Santamaría International, accessed via route.

What is a Content Management System?

A content management system is software that allows you to create and manage webpages easily by separating the creation of your content from the mechanics required to present it on the web.

In this site, the content is stored in a database. The look and feel are created by a template. Joomla! brings together the template and your content to create web pages.

Logging in

To login to your site use the user name and password that were created as part of the installation process. Once logged-in you will be able to create and edit articles and modify some settings.

Creating an article

Once you are logged-in, a new menu will be visible. To create a new article, click on the "Submit Article" link on that menu.

The new article interface gives you a lot of options, but all you need to do is add a title and put something in the content area. To make it easy to find, set the state to published.

You can edit an existing article by clicking on the edit icon (this only displays to users who have the right to edit).

Template, site settings, and modules

The look and feel of your site is controlled by a template. You can change the site name, background colour, highlights colour and more by editing the template settings. Click the "Template Settings" in the user menu.

The boxes around the main content of the site are called modules.  You can modify modules on the current page by moving your cursor to the module and clicking the edit link. Always be sure to save and close any module you edit.

You can change some site settings such as the site name and description by clicking on the "Site Settings" link.

More advanced options for templates, site settings, modules, and more are available in the site administrator.

Site and Administrator

Your site actually has two separate sites. The site (also called the front end) is what visitors to your site will see. The administrator (also called the back end) is only used by people managing your site. You can access the administrator by clicking the "Site Administrator" link on the "User Menu" menu (visible once you login) or by adding /administrator to the end of your domain name. The same user name and password are used for both sites.

Learn more

There is much more to learn about how to use Joomla! to create the web site you envision. You can learn much more at the Joomla! documentation site and on the Joomla! forums.

Built with Less

The typographic scale is based on two LESS variables in variables.less: @baseFontSize and @baseLineHeight. The first is the base font-size used throughout and the second is the base line-height. We use those variables and some simple math to create the margins, paddings, and line-heights of all our type and more. Customize them and Bootstrap adapts.

Body copy

Bootstrap's global default font-size is 14px, with a line-height of 1.7em. This is applied to the <body> and all paragraphs. In addition, <p> (paragraphs) receive a bottom margin of half their line-height (9px by default).

Nullam quis risus eget urna mollis ornare vel eu leo. Cum sociis natoque penatibus et magnis dis parturient montes, nascetur ridiculus mus. Nullam id dolor id nibh ultricies vehicula.

<p>...</p>

Lead body copy

Make a paragraph stand out by adding .lead.

Vivamus sagittis lacus vel augue laoreet rutrum faucibus dolor auctor. Duis mollis, est non commodo luctus.

Form control which supports multiple lines of text. Change row attribute as necessary.

  1. <textarearows="3"></textarea>

Checkboxes and radios

Checkboxes are for selecting one or several options in a list while radios are for selecting one option from many.

Default (stacked)

  1. <labelclass="checkbox">
  2. <inputtype="checkbox"value="">
  3. Option one is this and that—be sure to include why it's great
  4. </label>
  5.
  6. <labelclass="radio">
  7. <inputtype="radio"name="optionsRadios"id="optionsRadios1"value="option1"checked>
  8. Option one is this and that—be sure to include why it's great
  9. </label>
  10. <labelclass="radio">
  11. <inputtype="radio"name="optionsRadios"id="optionsRadios2"value="option2">
  12. Option two can be something else and selecting it will deselect option one
  13. </label>

Inline checkboxes

Add the .inline class to a series of checkboxes or radios for controls appear on the same line.

  1. <labelclass="checkbox inline">
  2. <inputtype="checkbox"id="inlineCheckbox1"value="option1"> 1
  3. </label>
  4. <labelclass="checkbox inline">
  5. <inputtype="checkbox"id="inlineCheckbox2"value="option2"> 2
  6. </label>
  7. <labelclass="checkbox inline">
  8. <inputtype="checkbox"id="inlineCheckbox3"value="option3"> 3
  9. </label>

Selects

Use the default option or specify a multiple="multiple" to show multiple options at once.

  1. <select>
  2. <option>1</option>
  3. <option>2</option>
  4. <option>3</option>
  5. <option>4</option>
  6. <option>5</option>
  7. </select>
  8.
  9. <selectmultiple="multiple">
  10. <option>1</option>
  11. <option>2</option>
  12. <option>3</option>
  13. <option>4</option>
  14. <option>5</option>
  15. </select>

Extending form controls

Adding on top of existing browser controls, Bootstrap includes other useful form components.

Prepended and appended inputs

Add text or buttons before or after any text-based input. Do note that select elements are not supported here.

Default options

Wrap an .add-on input-group-addon and an input with one of two classes to prepend or append text to an input.

@

.00
  1. <divclass="input-prepend input-group">
  2. <spanclass="add-on input-group-addon">@</span><inputclass="span2"id="prependedInput"size="16"type="text"placeholder="Username">
  3. </div>
  4. <divclass="input-append">
  5. <inputclass="span2"id="appendedInput"size="16"type="text"><spanclass="add-on input-group-addon">.00</span>
  6. </div>

Search form

  1. <formclass="form-search">
  2. <divclass="input-append">
  3. <inputtype="text"class="span2 search-query">
  4. <buttontype="submit"class="btn">Search</button>
  5. </div>
  6. <divclass="input-prepend input-group">
  7. <buttontype="submit"class="btn">Search</button>
  8. <inputtype="text"class="span2 search-query">
  9. </div>
  10. </form>

Combined

Use both classes and two instances of .add-on input-group-addon to prepend and append an input.

$ .00
  1. <divclass="input-prepend input-group input-append">
  2. <spanclass="add-on input-group-addon">$</span><inputclass="span2"id="appendedPrependedInput"size="16"type="text"><spanclass="add-on input-group-addon">.00</span>
  3. </div>

Buttons instead of text

Instead of a <span> with text, use a .btn to attach a button (or two) to an input.

  1. <divclass="input-append">
  2. <inputclass="span2"id="appendedInputButton"size="16"type="text"><buttonclass="btn"type="button">Go!</button>
  3. </div>
  4.
  5. <divclass="input-append">
  6. <inputclass="span2"id="appendedInputButtons"size="16"type="text"><buttonclass="btn"type="button">Search</button><buttonclass="btn"type="button">Options</button>
  7. </div>

Default buttons

Button styles can be applied to anything with the .btn class applied. However, typically you'll want to apply these to only <a> and <button> elements for the best rendering.

Buttonclass=""Description
btn Standard gray button with gradient
btn btn-primary Provides extra visual weight and identifies the primary action in a set of buttons
btn btn-info Used as an alternative to the default styles
btn btn-success Indicates a successful or positive action
btn btn-warning Indicates caution should be taken with this action
btn btn-danger Indicates a dangerous or potentially negative action
btn btn-inverse Alternate dark gray button, not tied to a semantic action or use
btn btn-link Deemphasize a button by making it look like a link while maintaining button behavior

Cross browser compatibility

IE9 doesn't crop background gradients on rounded corners, so we remove it. Related, IE9 jankifies disabled button elements, rendering text gray with a nasty text-shadow that we cannot fix.

Button sizes

Fancy larger or smaller buttons? Add .btn-large, .btn-small, or .btn-mini for additional sizes.

  1. <p>
  2. <buttonclass="btn btn-large btn-primary"type="button">Large button</button>
  3. <buttonclass="btn btn-large"type="button">Large button</button>
  4. </p>
  5. <p>
  6. <buttonclass="btn btn-primary"type="button">Default button</button>
  7. <buttonclass="btn"type="button">Default button</button>
  8. </p>
  9. <p>
  10. <buttonclass="btn btn-small btn-primary"type="button">Small button</button>
  11. <buttonclass="btn btn-small"type="button">Small button</button>
  12. </p>
  13. <p>
  14. <buttonclass="btn btn-mini btn-primary"type="button">Mini button</button>
  15. <buttonclass="btn btn-mini"type="button">Mini button</button>
  16. </p>

Disabled state

Make buttons look unclickable by fading them back 50%.

Anchor element

Add the .disabled class to <a> buttons.

Primary link Link

  1. <ahref="#"class="btn btn-large btn-primary disabled">Primary link</a>
  2. <ahref="#"class="btn btn-large disabled">Link</a>

Note: We use .disabled as a utility class here, similar to the common .active class, so no prefix is required.

Button element

Add the disabled attribute to <button> buttons.

  1. <buttontype="button"class="btn btn-large btn-primary disabled"disabled="disabled">Primary button</button>
  2. <buttontype="button"class="btn btn-large"disabled>Button</button>

One class, multiple tags

Use the .btn class on an <a>, <button>, or <input> element.

Link
  1. <aclass="btn"href="">Link</a>
  2. <buttonclass="btn"type="submit">Button</button>
  3. <inputclass="btn"type="button"value="Input">
  4. <inputclass="btn"type="submit"value="Submit">

As a best practice, try to match the element for your context to ensure matching cross-browser rendering. If you have an input, use an <input type="submit"> for your button.
